Long-Term Recovery: Thank You to Our LTR Department

As the sun sets on the Long-Term Recovery (LTR) services that have been a lifeline for so many in Charlotte County, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible work done by our LTR Department. In the wake of Hurricane Ian, our community was left with scars—both seen and unseen. But thanks to the tireless efforts of our LTR team, thousands of residents were able to find the help, hope, and resources they needed to rebuild their lives.

Over the course of the past two years, our LTR Department processed nearly 1,800 applications from households devastated by the hurricane. Each application represented a family, a home, a life disrupted—and our team worked diligently to connect those in need with the right resources. Through their hard work, they made 424 direct referrals to partner agencies and hundreds more to local services for legal assistance, food availability, transportation, mental health support, homeless prevention, childcare, and school supplies.

One of the cornerstones of our recovery efforts was the management of a voucher program, which provided essential household goods, appliances, furniture, and clothing to those who had lost so much. Our team also partnered with key agencies like Charlotte County Human Services, the Disaster Case Management Program, the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, United Way, and IOCC to address the most pressing needs of our residents. Whether it was facilitating home repairs through Rebuild Florida, coordinating debris removal, or promoting mental health workshops, the LTR Department was there—every step of the way.

At the funding table, our team played a crucial role in securing financial assistance for unmet needs, ensuring that no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of recovery. Their dedication and compassion have left an indelible mark on our community, and their work will be felt for years to come.

As we prepare to wrap up the LTR services, we are pleased to announce that Deb and Courtney, two of our most dedicated team members, will continue their journey with the GCP. Deb is currently studying for the upcoming HUD Housing Counselor exam, positioning herself to further assist our community with housing needs. Meanwhile, Courtney will be transitioning to a new role as a Certified Peer-Specialist in our Coordinated Entry Department, where she will continue to provide support to those most in need.

While our Long-Term Recovery services are concluding, we want to assure our community that updates and information regarding disaster relief, disaster preparedness, and emergency response efforts for any future natural disasters will be posted on the Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) website at www.coadfl.org.

We are incredibly proud of the work our LTR Department has accomplished. They have been a pillar of strength and unwavering support for those most impacted by Hurricane Ian. Their undeniable commitment to service has not only helped our community recover but has also inspired us all to be more resilient, more compassionate, and more united in the face of adversity.

Thank you Deb and Courtney for your extraordinary service—you have made a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

Please stay tuned for an upcoming After-Action Report that will provide a comprehensive overview of the significant efforts undertaken by community partners and organizations in Charlotte County's recovery and rebuilding process following Hurricane Ian.
