Daphnie Toussaint: A National Leader in the Fight to End Youth Homelessness

We are proud to announce that Daphnie Toussaint, President-Elect of the Charlotte County Youth Action Board (YAB), has been nominated and selected to join the NationalYouth Advisory Group. This distinguished group, launched by Virginia Commonwealth University in collaboration with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH), brings together young leaders from across the country to shape the future of youth homelessness prevention. As part of this initiative, Daphnie will be traveling to Washington, D.C., this fall, where her leadership and experiences will guide national efforts to prevent and end youth homelessness.

Since its inception in 2019, the Charlotte County Youth Action Board has been dedicated to addressing homelessness, with a particular focus on the challenges faced by unaccompanied and parenting homeless youth. Their mission extends beyond the local level, advocating for systemic change that benefits vulnerable youth across the country. Daphnie’s role on the National Youth Advisory Group will allow her to advocate for strategies that not only serve her community but contribute to national solutions, ensuring that young people everywhere receive the support they need.

The National Youth Advisory Group will provide critical input into USICH’s Youth Initiative, working to develop a federal strategic plan to prevent and end youth homelessness. Daphnie’s voice in this advisory body will have a profound impact on the homeless service system, particularly by informing policies, creating tools and resources, and shaping the delivery of services for unaccompanied and parenting homeless youth. As she collaborates with other youth leaders, federal agencies, and partners, her insights will help improve the coordination and effectiveness of services across the country, ensuring that youth experiencing homelessness are supported in meaningful and lasting ways.

This opportunity not only highlights Daphnie’s exceptional leadership but also underscores the importance of youth voices in the broader fight to end homelessness. The knowledge and experience she brings from Charlotte County’s YAB, along with the collaborative work of the National Youth Advisory Group, will influence change at the federal level and provide invaluable input into local and state programs. Her involvement will also build her professional network, allowing her to forge strong connections with national partners and influence policy in ways that resonate both locally and nationwide.

We are incredibly proud to have Daphnie representing Charlotte County at the national level. Her leadership and advocacy will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on youth homelessness prevention efforts, not only here in our community but across the nation. Through this unique role, she will help pave the way for more effective, compassionate solutions to one of the most pressing issues facing young people today.
