ON THE GROUND IN IOWA

Our Homes, Our Votes, Our Iowa, a partnership between NLIHC and the Polk County Housing Trust Fund, joined forces with Iowa: Fight for $15 to host a candidate forum on June 15 in Cedar Rapids on affordable housing and wage stagnation with former HUD SecretaryJulián Castro. Secretary Castro emphasized to a crowd of over 100 that greater federal investments in solutions are needed. Days later, Castro joined a growing number of other 2020 presidential candidates in releasing a comprehensive plan for addressing the country’s housing affordability crisis – his calls for $40 billion in annual funding for the national Housing Trust Fund, increased Housing Choice Vouchers, a renters’ tax credit, provisions to ensure fair housing, and more.

Our Homes, Our Votes, Our Iowa has invited all presidential candidates to share their affordable housing solutions with Iowa voters. More events will be announced soon.
