GCP Focus – C.A.R.E.

Domestic violence is something that no community is immune to and sadly often goes unreported. Studies indicate that on average, every minute 20 people experience some form of domestic violence in the United States. Domestic violence comes in many forms and can vary dramatically. Whether it’s through deliberate intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, or other abusive behaviors, no one deserves to be a victim and agencies like the Center for Abuse in Rape Emergencies (C.A.R.E.) work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure that those fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence have access to the appropriate services they need to become survivors.

C.A.R.E helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes in Charlotte County by providing them with safe and confidential access to services and shelter. C.A.R.E. works to create safety and awareness in our community by helping survivors and by promoting non-violent and healthy relationships through education and training.

C.A.R.E.’s services are available 365 days a year, and include a 24-hour crisis hotline, a safe haven shelter, hospital response advocacy, criminal justice services at the State Attorney’s Office, civil legal assistance, domestic violence and sexual assault support groups for survivors, an economic empowerment program, Green Dot active bystander training, and more. All services are free and confidential.
